About Troop 1257Troop 1257 was chartered by Church of the Epiphany, Herndon and is a Judeo-Christian Troop set in an environment based on Biblical principles where you and your friends can safely share new experiences together. Scouting is for all boys at least 11 years of age, have completed the 5th grade or have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light Award. New Scouts benefit from a program whereby they can earn their First Class rank over the course of the first year. Experienced Scouts (2nd and 3rd year) assist first year Scouts and continue to learn and grow. Older boys can participate in High Adventure treks each year: backpacking, canoeing, white-water rafting, sailing - the list goes on! The opportunities are endless! Patrols are the building block of Scouting and are made up of six to eight boys who work together to make things happen! Friendship, fun and adventure - that's what Scouting is about! Meetings are Tuesday nights from 7:00 - 8:30 at Church of the Epiphany, Herndon. If you're looking for a place to belong and a place to be the best you can be - Troop 1257 is the place for you. Every month is different. You just don't know what's around the corner, where you will go or what you have the chance to learn! We meet at Church of the Epiphany, Herndon. Then again, we might spend the weekend in a more, shall we say, rugged environment? Take a look at some pictures. ExperienceYou'll learn how to be prepared for whatever comes your way. If it's an all day hike, you'll know what to bring, and if you'll be out for a day or two you will know what to expect and what you need to really conquer the outdoors! From preparing your own meals to being a part of a team and making meals for a group - you will have all the skills to make a feast even mom would envy! But don't tell her, she may have you do it at home! You'll look forward to getting away and using tools to build and construct part of your weekend campsite! Whether you're cutting a rope while setting up a shelter or carving a piece of wood, you'll know how to make a pocketknife work for you! CHALLENGEThis isn't the place to get lost! You'll learn how to use a compass and blaze a trail! As your wilderness skills strengthen you'll learn life saving and first aid skills. And who doesn't like boating? Whether it's a canoe, kayak or sail boat? Along with boating go safety and survival skills that you will become a pro at! Of course, there are always adult team members to keep you from going over the edge!!!!! Or maybe it will be YOU who keeps those geezers on track!!! FUN!And we know how to have it! What better place to dive in and have an awesome time?!? Are you a master of the art of archery? NO? Come learn! Or maybe you prefer snowboarding or skiing? Adventure, fun, challenge and responsibility - the promise of the Scouting adventure is all of this and more. The Scouting experience gives you the tools to help make the most of your family, community and country. Are you ready? YOU CAN BE A PART OF THE GREAT ADVENTURE OF SCOUTING!Come test the waters.
